Are raises on the table? Yes. Currently the average GC raise is 3.5%, 3% for managing or senior counsel per Barker Gilmore.
Who gets paid most? GCs at large public and private PE companies. Their “biggest gains are increasingly tied to company scale, ownership structure and access to equity.”
- Large public company GCs make $2.5M at the 50th percentile, and $5.41M at the 90th percentile.
- Private company GCs cap out around $3.2M.
- PE portfolio-backed companies GCs cap out around $3.4M.
Bay area outliers. It’s worth noting the top GCs (all in the Bay Area) are in the $15-30M range! See, e.g., Alphabet’s Kent Walker at $29.13M, Broadcom’s Mark Brazeal $28.6M, Netflix’s David Hyman $15.4M, and NVIDIA’s Tim Teter $14.2M.
