Interview

3 Questions to Ask in an Interview

  • On November 27, 2016

An interview is going well if conversation flows. Do not awkwardly save all your questions for the end. Instead, work good ones into the conversation. Some samples below:

  1. “How did this role come about?” This question, if asked positively, is a nice way to get context and history — you need to know if there is constant turnover or if the opening is due to growth, for example.
  2. “How did you choose to work here?” You should first research the interviewer so you can personalize the question. For example, you could start by noting the interviewer came from company X doing Y and probably had a lot of choices. Then ask what drew him/her to this company. This question shows you did your homework and appreciate the interviewer’s background.
  3. “I read in the [quarterly report/annual statement/press release] about [new development]. What do you think [relating to this new development]?” This question shows you studied up and is flattering to the interviewer.
