5 Crucial Questions to Ask a Potential Employer

  • On October 30, 2016

At the ACC career panel at Facebook mentioned below, panelists suggested great questions to ask a potential employer when assessing whether to move:

  1. How is Legal perceived by the client? By the team? By the manager?
  2. What are the company’s priorities? Look for themes, and try to understand the culture (you can get at this point by asking, “What do you like the most/least about the job/company?”).
  3. Is the company/team/role compelling to you?
  4. What does success at the company look like? Ask what performance is expected at periodic intervals, e.g., at 3, 6 and 12 months. Ask for examples of successful people in similar/same roles.
  5. What is the growth path?

Bonus: for less canned answers, reach into your network, especially to insiders, and ask what the company is really like and what it values.
