How to Interview with the CEO

  • On November 1, 2015

Senior attorneys often interview with the CEO in the final round. This article by the CEO of Russell Reynolds lays out what to do.

  1. Identify what the CEO should learn about you. The CEO can’t read your mind, and you need to tell your story to buttress why should you get the job.
  2. Prepare to be asked about who has influenced you. When you are listing your mentors or heroes, explain why to show you learn from others, including those with different viewpoints.
  3. Be ready for questions on your interests and values. Your answer should underscore your curiosity, ability to learn, and fit with the role, company, and its mission.
  4. Prep for being probed about failure. You must have learned something from a bad experience, so explain what that is. Close with why the job is a good fit.
