Tips for a Stand-Out Resume

  • On April 5, 2015

If you are looking for a job, you should be looking in earnest now given the summer slow-down ahead. To make your resume stand out, I would follow the tips listed in this infographic. I agree with its key points:

  1. Use traditional font like Times New Roman, between 9 and 12 points in size.
  2. List most recent jobs first, and include accomplishments as bullet points (no more than 5 or 6 per section).
  3. Tailor the resume; use the employer’s keywords.
  4. List a professional-sounding email address.
  5. Skip (i) an objective statement (what you’re about should be obvious from a quick skim), (ii) articles (“the”, “a”), and (iii) your GPA if it’s below 25% (maybe 33%).
