How to Upgrade to Counsel Role from Contracts Manager

  • On February 19, 2017

I’ve seen talented law graduates take contract manager roles. How do they transition to a counsel role? Here are 4 ways:

  1. Join a small dynamic company. As the company grows, there will be room for advancement, and you will have earned the team’s confidence by then.
  2. Show you have the right skills and can add value without risk. Employers may consider candidates with on-point skills from well-known companies because these candidates likely have received top-notch training and operate at a high level.
  3. Have great people skills. It’s always helpful to have important people refer you to a higher level job and vouch for your quality of work.
  4. Take advantage of a strong economy. In a tight labor market, employers have more flexible hiring parameters.
