4 Easy Things Senior Lawyers Should Do to Land Their Next Job

  • On April 9, 2017

Very experienced attorneys face the problem that senior jobs are in short supply. What should they do to land their next in-house job? Here are 4 easy things:

  1. Highlight hot skills, especially ones that are hard to to find or cutting edge and still developing, e.g., privacy, open source, fintech, etc.
  2. Show continued learning. List on your resume and LinkedIn any coding classes you’ve taken recently or interesting talks you’ve given on new developments.
  3. Demonstrate tech savvy. Deep six the aol or yahoo email address.
  4. Add a good photo to your LinkedIn profile. You want to show you can fit in anywhere.

Remember: You have a bigger network than junior lawyers from servicing many clients over the years. Use that network to help you find your next job, and highlight those in-demand skills, which are far broader and deeper than less experienced lawyers.
