3 Ways to Survive (and Ace) Marathon Interview Sessions

  • On September 7, 2018

It’s interview season again! After acing the phone screen, my candidates are getting called in for marathon in-person interviews. Here are three ways to survive and even ace these long sessions:

  1. Fuel yourself. Bring a granola bar. Accept that bottle of water offered in the beginning. Expect your energy level to crash in the middle, and counteract that by standing up between interviews and eating that granola bar!
  2. Be fresh for each interviewer. Even if six people in a row ask you the same thing, you must be at your best with everyone. Consistently show enthusiasm for the employer and job.
  3. Prepare questions and answers. Before the big day, ask for your lineup and think about what they will ask you. For each interviewer, ask good questions that show you have researched the company, team, and role. If you don’t ask anything, you risk seeming disinterested.
Remember: you can anticipate what will be asked and how tired you will feel, so prepare accordingly!
