The good news:
- Average salaries and equity grants rose slightly.
- Layoffs are at the lowest point in 3 years.
- These industries grew headcount: energy, hw, med device.
Ready for the bad news?
- Startups “haven’t been this reluctant to hire in at least 5 years.”
- Net headcount growth has been “very weak throughout 2024.” Average headcount at Series A is now at 15, down from 20+ 2 years ago.
- Headcount is flat at SaaS, healthtech, adtech, biotech industries; and headcount is down at consumer, edtech & gaming.
